| How to create a video
Vidcars.com only accepts Flash encoded video files (.FLV). To add a video to vidcars.com you must follow the easy steps below to ensure that your video loads correctly.
- Record a 2-3 minute video with your camera - You can use any DV camera or regular digital camera or cellphone with video to record your video provided you can extract the video onto your computer.
- Download the video from the camera onto your computer - Please refer to the camera user manual on how to do this. With most digital cameras, you can connect it to the USB port on your computer and the operating system should recognize it and provide you the option to download the camera content
- Convert the extracted video to flash video
- To convert the video to flash, download this Free Flash Video encoder "Riva Encoder" also available here
- Install Riva Encoder
- Run Riva Encoder and import the the video into riva encoder (see image below)
- Encode the video to FLV format. Recommended settings for the video are Size:480x360, Bitrate: 128 you can leave the other settings with the default values.
- Make sure you select the output directory. This is where the encoded video will be saved. After the encoding process is done...
- Check the encoded file size and make sure that its under 10MB, you can do this by right clicking your mouse on the file and selecting properties. The smaller the file size the faster the upload but the poorer the video quality. You can try encoding the video using different settings to meet the file size requirement.
- Login to your account on vidcars.com - Click on my listings, if you previously added your listing, then click on the video link otherwise click "Add New Listing" to create a new listing. After you add the listing, click on the video link to upload a video
- Click on browse and select the (.flv) file you encoded using Riva then click on "upload video"
- The video will take a few seconds/minutes to upload depending on the size of the video and your internet connection speed. We recommend highspeed internet (either cable or DSL). Once the upload is complete you should be able to preview the video and it should be available on your listing as well.
